Alina

Support Worker

About Me

Hi, My name is Alina! I was born in Singapore. I came to Perth in 2024 to study a postgraduate diploma in Psychology. After graduating from high school, I gained a diploma in nursing and went on to complete an undergraduate degree in Psychology. In Singapore, I worked in a special needs school as a teaching support intern right before I came to Perth. I also worked as a student nurse extensively throughout my diploma course. I enjoy supporting my local communities and have always undertaken a wide range of volunteer work in a variety of settings (e.g., with children, low-income families, elderly people) since I was young.

What are some of my strengths and hobbies?

In my spare time, I like to dance, sing and go to the gym. My strengths are patience, adaptability, I’m keen to learn and I’m compassionate. I believe I build rapport with children really quickly.

What do I enjoy learning about?

I love learning about human behaviour, psychology and therapeutic approaches. I actively search or dive in journal articles or videos on these topics. My thesis topic is on Theory of Mind, one of the key neurocognitive theories impacting autistic individuals.

Why do I like supporting children with an autism diagnosis and their families?

Since I was young, I have aspired to be a child psychologist. I have always loved working with children as well. I love supporting children with an autism diagnosis and their families because I believe that we should support kids in every aspect of their life, be it in school, home or in the community. This love grew even more after I worked in the special needs school and got the opportunity to work with teachers, social workers, therapists and parents. After working with them, I feel for and understand some of the challenges and support needs of autistic children and their carers.
