About Me
My name is Brittany, and I am originally from Brisbane. I moved to Perth from Canberra in April 2022, and I am in my final year of a Bachelor of Social Science majoring in Behavioural Studies. Prior to Canberra, I lived in Melbourne and Sydney, as I was a member of the Royal Australian Navy for 8 years as an electronics technician. During my time in the Navy, I completed multiple Middle Eastern deployments, and exercises around Australia. I also took a period of leave and worked at a ski resort in Canada for 6 months. In addition to the Middle East, I have also travelled to Japan, Fiji, Thailand, India, and Sri Lanka. I still have some more travelling on my bucket list; however, my career and education are my priority at the moment.
What are some of my strengths and hobbies?
I love going to the gym, and getting outdoors for a walk or a hike. I take any opportunity I can to go camping, fishing, and go to the beach. I enjoy snowboarding and love to venture around wine regions wherever I travel to. Although I am no artist, I enjoy doing paint by numbers, completing puzzles, and trying other little activities when I have some down time. I would say I am a resilient person, who can remain very calm under pressure. I love getting to know people and hearing their stories, and value authenticity and compassion.
What do I enjoy learning about?
I enjoy learning about new things and expanding my general knowledge. I really loved learning about electronics in my previous job, especially learning how to solder. Currently, I love the broadness of my degree. I have learnt about all things psychology and sociology, as well as criminology, some law, and both the history of Indigenous people, and current issues faced. I try to learn more about these in my own time, to gain more of an understanding about my goals and aspirations, and potential career paths.
Why do I like supporting children with an autism diagnosis and their families?
I really enjoy supporting children with an autism diagnosis and their families. It is truly inspirational watching the children continue to overcome their own challenges daily. Providing ongoing support and compassion for the children and their families can make a great difference in the overall wellbeing of each family member. Being in a position where I can build trustworthy relationships, and be part of the reason for them to smile, is such a fulfilling feeling.
