Courtney

Support Worker

About Me

My name is Courtney, I am from Perth, and I am currently studying primary teaching and specialising in special needs.  I have previously worked in afterschool care, American summer camps and have been nanny in the UK. I clearly love to travel and experience what different cultures have to offer. I have two little fluff balls called Indie and Lily who keep me busy.

What are some of my strengths and hobbies?

I love taking my dogs for a walk, hiking, going to the beach, pilates and watching a good movie. My strengths are being fun, loving, patient and creating positive relationships with children. I am able to stay calm in stressful situations and provide a safety net for children when they are in a heightened state.

What do I enjoy learning about?

I love learning about child development and the ways to best support children at the point of need and development. I have an interest in birth order and how that impacts a child behaviour and personality. Personally, I am the oldest child.

Why do I like supporting children with an autism diagnosis and their families?

I enjoy supporting children and families in championing the child and their strength, in a world that often sees deficit. One of my favourite quotes is: “Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.” - Rita  F. Pierson. As a support worker I love being able to be that adult for the children I care for.
