Ellie

Support Worker

About Me

Hi, my name is Ellie McLaughlin, and I am a 20-year-old university student studying for a Bachelor of Social Work. I was born in Dublin, Ireland, and moved to Perth with my family when I was 5. I started disability support work just over a year ago and have loved every second of it since.

What are some of my strengths and hobbies?

I have always had a passion for sports, especially basketball. I played for most of my teen years and love coaching junior teams on the weekends. My strength is that I am reliable at work and in other aspects of my life.

What do I enjoy learning about?

I love learning about the different ways we can interact and communicate with different people, whether that be people with disabilities, different ethnicities, or different religions. I love communicating with people and learning about their life experiences.
I also love researching health and fitness and incorporating healthy habits into my daily life that promote healthy living.

Why do I like supporting children with an autism diagnosis and their families?

I have always loved working with children. I have coached many kids' basketball teams and always loved making them laugh and have fun. I love supporting children with autism and their families because it is meaningful work. Seeing children achieve goals and develop in ways that may have once been unimaginable is beyond rewarding.
