Kelly
Protective Behaviours Practitioner
Kelly has worked in the disability sector for over 15 years. She started her career as a support worker, providing care and support to individuals with disabilities in the community. This is where her passion for supporting Autistic individuals began. She also very much enjoys working with children and when an opportunity arose to provide early intervention therapy to Autistic children, she was quick to embrace this and has never looked back.
For the past 10 years, Kelly has been supporting Autistic children and their families in her role as a Behavioural Therapist for two early intervention service providers in Western Australia. Her work included evidence-based assessment, development, and implementation of skills-based programs as well delivering positive behaviour supports. Kelly enjoys collaborating with all carers and professionals involved in helping a child reach their potential.
Over the past few years, Kelly has become increasingly aware of the importance of teaching children protective education, after having two children of her own. She now dedicates all her time to developing and delivering protective behaviours programs for children aged from 4-12 years and is extremely passionate about what she teaches. Protective Behaviours is a personal safety program designed to empower children and young people with strategies to promote safety and resilience. It helps develop important life skills and can reduce a child’s risk of abuse and harm.
Kelly provides Protective Behaviours Programs individually or in small groups, in a fun, safe, and age-appropriate way. The programs involve approximately 12 lessons, each running for one hour each week. Lessons include a variety of activities including games, books, videos, and visuals. Each lesson is individualised and presented in a way that best suits the child and their learning profile. Parent / guardian involvement is essential to help consolidate learning and ensure your child gains the most from the program. Kelly has a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) degree with a minor in Disability Studies. She is a certified Protective Behaviours Practitioner.
