Support Worker

About Me

Hi, my name is Kiarra. I'm a 23 year old university student studying towards a degree in Occupational Therapy. I have worked as a qualified educator in Early Childhood Education and Care for several years, where I discovered my passion for assisting children with additional needs. When I graduate university I would like to work in the paediatric OT field to help improve the lives of people living with autism.

What are some of my strengths and hobbies?

In my spare time I enjoy taking my 3 year old dog, Molly, for long walks and swims in the river. Molly loves to find the biggest sticks possible and tries to sneak them home! I compete in middle-distance athletics at a semi-elite level. However, I enjoy all kinds of sports and physical activity. I also like to cook and try lots of different delicious foods. Others have described me as patient, caring and resilient. The drive to help others succeed in life has always come naturally to me. I find nothing more rewarding than seeing a child reach their goals, happy and enjoying life!

What do I enjoy learning about?

I love learning about people, how different people live their lives and celebrating the diverse world we live in! I like to focus on the strengths of individuals and how I can use those strengths to help them reach their goals. I am always willing to learn more about how I can help improve inclusion and support within the community.

Why do I like supporting children with an autism diagnosis and their families?

Whilst working in Early Childhood Learning for several years, I encountered so many unique children and personalities. This included numerous children and families needing additional support each day in the classroom and at home. There was nothing I enjoyed more at work each day than working with those children and their families to foster inclusion, ensure they were happy, healthy and reaching new milestones over time!
